Summer is a fickle friend. Much, much does she promise when first she blazes gloriously to life—endless sun-drenched days of leisure, school a distant memory to be drowned by daily dips in the pool. Ah, but summer’s fidelity is fleeting, for all too soon she slips away. Suddenly, shockingly, a child’s carefree world is filled with binders and backpacks as the imminent regime of school creeps ever closer.
But school days are to be celebrated, for they are a journey into worlds of wonder. Now might a child be forever enchanted by a teacher’s gift to inspire and awaken his thirst for knowledge. Now too might that child forge friendships and learn the joys of companionship.
Hard though it is to see summer’s demise, there is much to rejoice in the approaching academic year. A similar air of expectancy simmers enticingly at the Patrick Heath Public Library. While our summer program seemed a nonpareil experience, we do believe our Youth Department’s autumn schedule is comparably unparalleled in its variety. All programs will resume the week of September 5.
August is traditionally our “Sleeper Month,” during which time we prepare for our autumn programs. All programs will resume the week of September 5.
