January 28, 1954 – June 1, 2023
Weber Ben Anthony Weber passed away on June 1, 2023, in Uvalde, Texas. He was born in San Antonio on January 28, 1954, to Jacqueline Winfreda Haby Weber and Joe Russell Weber.
He attended Sam Houston High School in San Antonio and as a senior was the captain of the distinguished 1972 football team and received a scholarship to play football at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. In 1978, he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Texas in Austin, and upon graduation he took a job as a Park Ranger in San Jacinto State Park for a year. He delighted in the Ranger work, inculcating a lifelong love of Texas State and National parks. He practiced accounting with the H.B. Zachry and Prescon as field accountant and comptroller, respectively. From 1981 to 2010, he owned and operated Webco Tile Roofing Inc. and Clean & Neat Roofing Inc. working all over the state of Texas and Colorado. He was known widely in the industry for fairness, honesty, and caring about quality craftmanship in his work and, consequently, was highly regarded for his knowledge and capabilities. ‘Do the right thing, because it is the right thing to do’ was a value he practiced daily and worked tirelessly to instill in his three daughters, which he affectionately called ‘the sisters’.
He survived by three daughters, Kristen L Weber and husband Daniel Stacy, Amanda W Blazek and husband Jason, and Lauren W Cullen and husband Carson; and mother of his children, Holly L Hughes; eight grandchildren, Samuel M Stacy, Sloan E Blazek, Beau M Blazek, Lillie C Blazek, Charlotte H Blazek, Colter L Cullen, Chance Q Cullen, and Cecile J Cullen; brother, David R Weber Ph.D.; sisters, Catherine L Payne, Romell E Henze, and Karie M Hazen.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father as afore named.
Ben enjoyed reading books, especially about Texas and history, and this great interest in reading aided him in his superpower, conversation. He was a careful thoughtful man who would agreeably converse with anyone, generally at length, on all manner of subjects. Through the conversation he would quietly convey genuine appreciation and value for the other’s thoughts, and his excellent conversation was supported by a robust and distinct baritone voice, laced with a near extinct style of speaking culminating in perhaps one of the last true Texas drawls. It was an engaging, albeit audible, tableau of a bygone Texas.
He had a great appreciation for all outdoor environs, but especially a high dry climate, despite being a San Antonio man through and through. An avid and gifted gardener, he spent large parts of his retirement days tending his flowers and vegetables in all seasons, and in this was his father’s faithful son to the end.
If his three daughters were his pride, then his grandchildren were his joy, as he could put any well-established grandmother to shame with his unyielding devotion and gentle kindness to his beloved grandchildren.
Simply put, he was as a good Texas family man, who offered what he had freely and without hesitation. He loved fiercely and was loved fiercely in return.
