Doss
Mildred Clair Crawford Doss was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Abilene, Texas to Marvin E. and Mabel Clair Crawford. She went home to her Lord on March 11, 2023.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Tom C. Doss; and her five brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives: David (Sarah), Samuel (Jenna) and Steve (Jan); grandchildren Steven, Sarah, Stuart, Jacob, Julie, and Travis; and great-grandchildren Grace (Scott), Amelia, Teddy, Tyson and Tucker.
Millie graduated Abilene High School and met Tom at an Abilene Christian College student mixer. He caught her attention by being the only male student who volunteered to help wash dishes. They had a long and colorful life together, modeling unity as they celebrated the joys and faced the challenges of life.
She became a family caregiver in her forties, a certified scuba diver in her fifties, a hiker in her sixties, and a short-term missionary to Thailand in her seventies. Despite vision problems that plagued her later years, she loved to read, sew and quilt, and had an eye for fashion and home decor. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing hymns. Her mind was sharp to the end and her wit, usually directed at herself, could sneak up on you.
Millie Doss was a lifelong Boerne resident and member of the Boerne Church of Christ. After Tom’s death in 2006, Millie’s church and many friends embraced her and she thrived as a widow. In the end she died as she had lived, surrounded by family and trusting God with her heavenly future.
A memorial service will be held at the Boerne Church of Christ at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25.
