After not making the playoffs last season, the Boerne Champion boys soccer team responded with a great 2023 and claimed this year’s district title.
The Chargers won Monday’s district game at Seguin and before that, Champion claimed a 1-0 victory against Smithson Valley last Friday.
Champion went undefeated in the second round of district action and posted a 6-0-1 mark and needed every one of those wins to take the top spot in 26-5A.
The Chargers are 14-1-3 overall and 11-1-2 in district.

In order to get into position to win district, the Chargers had to defeat Smithson Valley last Friday, the only team to beat them them in league play so far.
Champion won last Friday’s match, 1-0, the same score the Rangers defeated the Chargers by in the first round.
Bentley McCool scored the only goal in last Friday’s match to help the Chargers inch closer to the district title. It was a must win for Champion if they were going to take the district and coach Clifton Tierney said they rose to the challenge.
“I’m quite proud of the team, they have been hard to play against all year and we moved to the top of the standings,” he said.
