The Boerne High softball team bounced back from last Tuesday’s tough loss at Jourdanton with a strong performance against Hondo Friday night at Greyhound Field.
Boerne caged the Owls, 11-4, behind 12 hits after only coming up with 2 base knocks in Jourdanton. The Lady Greyhounds improved to 15-8 overall and are off until this Friday when they open district play at Bandera.
Boerne hit the ball well against Hondo and hit three out of the park. Ava Nieto hit a solo homer in the first and then Taryn Madlock knocked out two 3-run homers, one in the third and the other in the sixth.
Because of the long ball, Boerne was up 5-0 by the third and then Hondo scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to make it 5-2, but the Lady Hounds blew the game open in the sixth with 6 runs, 3 coming on Madlock’s second dinger of the game for the 11-2 lead and almost kicked in the mercy rule.
The Owls tried to rally late and scored 2 in the top of the seventh but that’s where the rallied ended and Boerne picked up the 11-4 win.
Madlock finished with 6 RBI and 2 runs scored on her 2 home runs, Nieto hit 2 singles to go with her homer, pushed in 3 runs and scored 3 times, while Ava Renteria doubled and singled and scored twice.
Cameron Cooper singled and scored 2 runs, Ava Rodriguez recorded 2 singles, Jess Aguirre scored a run, Riley Partin singled, drove in a run and scored once, while Isa Renteria singled.
Renteria also picked up the win from the circle on 86 pitches. She gave up 5 hits, 3 earned runs, 4 walks and fanned 3.
