The Boerne Champion girls soccer team visited Smithson Valley on Friday night and suffered a 3-0 loss to the district-champ Lady Rangers.

It was a match that didn’t affect either team’s district standings since the Lady Rangers are undefeated and in first place, while Champion is locked in as the fourth-place team once playoffs start next week.

The Lady Chargers will play at Leander on the Friday after spring break in the first round of the playoffs. Leander will host the match that is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.

They hosted Seguin Monday and won that match 10-0. Champion is 9-11-1 overall and 7-6-1 in district. (For results of that match, see this weekend’s Boerne Star.)

After the Seguin match, they’ll take some time before starting the postseason. The Lady Chargers are hoping for another deep run like they had last year when they won the region.

In Friday’s match, Smithson Valley tallied 18 shots, with 12 on goal, while the Chargers had 12 shots, with 8 on goal.

The Rangers scored midway through the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break. They finished out by scoring 2 goals in the second half, one early in the half and the other late in the half.
