Hound hardballers in San Marcos tournament

The Hound hardball team played four games at the San Marcos Tournament last weekend and won three of those contests to go 3-1 at the event. Boerne didn’t play any games on Saturday in its final tournament of the regular season.

BHS improves to 14-2 overall and resumed district play Tuesday at Fredericksburg. They host Canyon Lake Thursday, 6 p.m.

Boerne opened the tourney with a 4-0 win over Seguin on Thursday. The Greyhounds plated 2 runs in the third and added 2 more in the fifth to get its 4 runs.

BHS finished with 6 hits in the game, including a triple from Riley Pechacek that drove in 2 runs.

Brooks Perez doubled in the fifth and drove in a run and Perez also singled and scored 2 runs. Cam Johnson knocked out an RBI single in the fifth, while Jace Preston and Walker Hill both singled with Hill plating 2 runs.

Campbell Jackson went all 7 innings in the circle and scattered 5 hits on 74 pitches and didn’t give up a run or a walk and he fanned 4 batters.

Up next on Thursday, the Greyhounds won a close contest over Harker Heights, 7-5.

The game was tied 3-3 after four frames but the Hounds pushed in 4 runs in the sixth for the 7-5 lead. Harker Heights tried to answer in the bottom of the inning and scored 2 but came up short.

Both teams finished with 11 hits in the game and the Greyhounds overcame 3 errors to get the win.

Brooks Perez singled and scored, Riley Pechacek hit 2 singles, drove in a run and scored, Cam Johnson recorded 2 singles, scored once and pushed in 2 runs, Ryan Hooper walked and scored, Xander Cloudy singled, Jace Preston knocked out a double and 2 singles, collected 2 RBI and scored a run, Caleb Cloutier walked twice and scored a run, while Walker Hill hit 2 singles, picked up an RBI and scored a run.

Xander Cloudy tossed 79 pitches in 5 innings of work and yielded 8 hits, 1 earned run and 1 walk, while Thomas Puckett and Tanner Tuschinski both tossed in the sixth.

The Greyhounds returned to the field on Friday and defeated Norman, Oklahoma, 6-1. Boerne was up 4-0 after five frames and then scored 2 more in the sixth before the Oklahoma school got on the board in the bottom of the frame.

Boerne had 6 hits, including a triple from Brooks Perez, who also walked and picked up an RBI, while Jace Preston doubled and drove in a run.

Riley Pechacek singled, scored and collected an RBI, Cam Johnson walked and scored, Xander Cloudy singled, walked and drove in a run, Cale Blalock singled, Caleb Cloutier scored once, and Walker Hill plated 3 of the team’s 6 runs from the No. 9 spot and he also singled once.

Jake Wright tossed all 6 innings and gave up 5 hits, no earned runs, 4 walks and he sat down 4.

Boerne High closed out the tourney on Friday with a 4-1 setback to San Marcos for its only loss of the event.

The Hounds actually outhit San Marcos, 5-4, but didn’t score a run until the top of the seventh.

Riley Pechacek and Brooks Perez combined for 4 of the team’s 5 hits after Pechacek doubled and singled, while Perez knocked out 2 singles. Ryan Hooper had the team’s other hit and Campbell Jackson scored the team’s only run on a wild pitch.

Cam Johnson went 3.2 innings on the hill and yielded 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and fanned 3, while Tanner Tuschinski gave up a hit, a run and didn’t walk a batter.
