BOERNE– The Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the promotion of two longtime leaders to be the department’s next Director and Assistant Director.

This week, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Lissette Jimenez took over as Director and Parks Superintendent Donnie Bergmann transitioned to Assistant Director.

“I have watched Lissette grow from a park attendant into the leader she is today, not only at the City of Boerne but with multiple professional organizations,” Assistant City Manager Danny Zincke said. “As for Donnie, since my first day at the City of Boerne, he has been one of our veterans, a model of excellence, consistently demonstrating initiative and passion for his work.”

The position of Director of Parks has remained unfilled since August 2021 when Assistant City Manager Zincke transitioned to the City Manager’s Office. Both Jimenez and Bergmann have continuously developed and expanded their leadership roles and understand the value and community traditions of our community. Combined, both have provided 44 years of dedication to our community and have been instrumental in the City’s Tree City USA designation for 12 straight years.

“I cannot think of two better people to lead our Parks and Recreation Department as we add parks, expand programming and services,” City Manager Ben Thatcher said. “Lissette and Donnie have a true commitment to the City of Boerne and our residents and visitors.”

During her 11-year tenure with the Parks and Recreation Department Lissette has accomplished: Assisted in or oversaw the department’s multiple recognitions by Texas Amateur Athletic Federation as a Member City of the Year, Platinum Member City of Gold Member City Become a member of the National Recreation Parks Association Directors School and sitting as the education committee chair for Sports Management School Establish Boerne Lemonade Day to help cultivate the next generation of entrepreneurs

Since joining the City in 1990, Donnie has played an active role or has overseen:

• Creation of Phase I of Northside Community Park, Boerne Skate Park and Northrup Park

• Renovations at Veterans Plaza, City Park, and Kinderpark, Cibolo Trail and Old No. 9 extensions, and Phase II of Boerne City Lake expansion

• Relocation of Parks and Recreation operations and administrative offices into new buildings Going forward, both will play instrumental roles in helping to establish Northside Community Park and other green space improvements approved by voters in the November 2022 Bond Election.
