SAN ANTONIO – Boerne High competed at this year’s 4A state swim and dive meet at Davis Natatorium in San Antonio last week.
It’s the first year for the UIL to host a 4A only meet and the Greyhound finished the 2022-23 season with both the girls and boys teams in the top 10 in the state and even earned a state medal on the boys side after Henry Johnson picked up a bronze medal.
The Boerne boys placed with 99 points for 7th and the Lady Greyhounds finished 9th with 102 points.
Andrews won the boys meet with 333 points and Great Hearts Monte Vista took the girls meet with 295 points.
Johnson earned the lone medal for the Greyhounds at last week’s meet in San Antonio held Thursday and Friday.
Johnson earned bronze in the 100-yard backstroke after he placed 3rd with a time of 54.57 and picked up 16 team points.
Johnson is a senior and said it was great to end his high school career at the state meet and earn a medal.
“It means a lot, it’s definitely going to go into the memory books,” he said. “I feel so honored to be here and to be able to represent my school in this way.”
Johnson just missed out on another medal after he was 4th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.51 for 15 more team points.
Johnson was also part of several relays that earned points. Johnson, Cooper Wagner, Carter Schuessler and Michael Villarreal teamed up for 6th in the 200-yard medley relay after clocking in at 1:47 for 26 more points.
Johnson, Isaac Martin Johnson, Schuessler and Wagner earned 24 points in the final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31 for 7th place.
Wagner finished 10th in the 100 butterfly for 7 more points with a time of 56.82 and he was also 8th in the 50-yard freestyle for 11 points.
Girls
In the girls 200-yard medley relay, Brinley Robinson, Ella Parsons, Kiali Cunningham and Brenna McCarty teamed up for 5thwith a 2:01 for 28 points,
Cunningham placed 8th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.42 for 11 more points, while McCarty won the consolation finals and finished 9th overall in the 100-yard freestyle with a 58.73 for 9 points.
In the girls 200-yard freestyle relay, the same four as in the 200-IM relay of Cunningham, Robinson, Parsons and McCarty combined for a time of 1:50.22 for 8th and 22 points, while McCarty came in 11th in the 100-yard backstroke after clocking in at 1:06 for 6 points.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Cunningham placed 6th with a 1:14 for 13 points and Parsons won the consolation finals for 9thwith a time of 1:16 and 9 more points.
In the last event of the day, the BHS girls team of Cassidy Collier, Mary Rich, Bella McCarty and Sadie Smurr finished 15th for 4 more points in the 400-free relay with a time of 4:24.
