Lady Chargers close out regular season, open postseason Monday

Boerne Champion closed out the regular season Tuesday night in girls basketball with a visit to Seguin.

Boerne Champion closed out the regular season Tuesday night in girls basketball with a visit to Seguin.

Tuesday’s contest didn’t affect Champion’s standing in the district because they had already secured the No. 2 seed in 26-5A prior to the contest, but the Chargers wanted to play well before their playoff opener next week and went on to sack Seguin, 47-25.

Champion ends the regular season at 28-6 overall and 12-2 in district. They’ll open the playoffs Monday against Liberty Hill at Dripping Springs, 7 p.m.

Champion had a slow start to the game and was only leading 14-11 at halftime but played much better in the second half.

The Chargers tallied 16 in the third and 17 in the fourth quarter for 33 second-half points, while Seguin scored 5 and 9 in the final two periods. The Matadors never hit double digits in any of the four quarters with 9 being their best.

A total of 10 players scored for the Lady Chargers but only one was in double digits after Grace Erbstoesser finished with 12 points.

Adriana Barreiro and Madyson Marquard both netted 6, Bralyn Gault scored 5, Hudson Lonsdale and Alivia Gonzales netted 4 apiece, Addison Hankins and Kendall Fallon tallied 3 points apiece, while Christine McGinn and Hailey Winn both chipped in with 2.

Prior to Tuesday’s game, Champion hosted Smithson Valley last Friday on Senior Night and seniors honored were Alivia Gonzales, Madyson Marquard, Addison Hankins, Hudson Lonsdale, Olivia Keilman and Christine McGinn.

1ST ROUND PLAYOFFS Champion vs. Liberty Hill at Dripping Springs on Monday, Feb. 13, 7 p.m.
