Deer hold off Ingram, face Wall in playoffs

The Comfort Deer basketball team held off a furious rally by the Ingram Lady Warriors to take the regular season finale on Tuesday night, 34-28.

The Comfort Deer basketball team held off a furious rally by the Ingram Lady Warriors to take the regular season finale on Tuesday night, 34-28.

With the win the Deer finish 5-5 in District 5-3A Play and 16-18 overall. The Deer are the third seed out of 5-3A and will take on the Wall Lady Hawks (2nd of 6-3A) on Monday, Feb. 13 in Sonora at 7 p.m.

In Tuesday’s contest, Comfort was up 11-3 after one but only scored 2 points in the second, while Ingram netted 4 and the Deer lead was 13-7 at the half.

CHS added to its lead in the third after outscoring the Warriors in the period, 12-5, and took a 25-12 lead into halftime, but Ingram started to heat up in the fourth.

After only scoring 3, 4 and 5 points through the first three quarters for 12 total points, the Lady Warriors found some offense in the fourth quarter and dropped in 16 points.

However, Comfort scored enough in the final stanza with 9 points to hold off the rally and secure the win.

Meghan Davis led the Deer with 9 points, Katie Haffner, Bailey Feldman and Emily Rivera all scored 5, Jael Hernandez and Jackie Zapata tallied 4 points apiece and Lula Jaime chipped in with 2 as no Comfort player reached double digits although Davis was in double-digit rebounds with 11 boards to go with 3 assists.

Zapata had 7 boards and 4 steals, Hernandez came up with 8 steals and 4 assists and Rivera dished out 4 assists and had 3 steals.
