Greyhounds win 11th district title in last 14 seasons

With two games left in the regular season, the Boerne High boys basketball team secured this year’s 27-4A title Tuesday night with a road win at Fredericksburg.

Boerne defeated the Battlin’ Billies, 78-39, and improved to 25-5 overall and 10-0 in district. The Hounds were at Davenport Friday and close out the regular season at home Tuesday against Bandera.

The district championship that the Greyhounds claimed on Tuesday is Boerne’s sixth in a row and 11th in the last 14 seasons.

Of the last six district titles, two have been co-champs with Fredericksburg, but the Billies are struggling this year and were trailing 18-8 after one quarter.

Boerne outscored Fred in the second 19-8 and built a 37-16 halftime lead.

Fredericksburg played better in the third and netted 17 points to outdo what they did in the entire first half, but the Hounds had their best scoring quarter of the night as well with 23 points to open up a 60-33 lead.

In the fourth, BHS tripled up the Billies, 18-6, to close it out.

Boerne had four in double figures and almost had six in double digits. Trevor Agarwal led the team with 18, Casen Hoegemeyer and Koen Wolff tallied 11 apiece, Houston Hendrix scored 10, while Colton Hoegemeyer and Sam Holland tallied 9 points each.

Barrett Pape chipped in with 6, Hutson Hendrix had 2, while Luke Fox and Jaxon Baize both hit one free throw.
