The Boerne Champion boys basketball team stayed in the hunt for the district title after the Chargers defeated Seguin on the road Tuesday, 63-46.
Champion is 10-2 in district and 28-3 overall. The Chargers haven’t lost much this year but on Friday they faced one of the teams that beat them in the first round of league play when they hosted Wagner.
The Chargers are in second place behind Veterans Memorial with two left counting Friday’s game with Wagner.
Champion also faces another team that beat them on Tuesday to close out the regular season when they visit Veterans Memorial. The Patriots were 11-1 entering Friday and the Chargers were nipping at their heels at 10-2, so seeding for the playoffs and the district title is up for grabs and may not be settled until the final game of the regular season.
In Tuesday’s game, the Chargers were up 15-8 at the end of one and then outscored the Matadors in the second, 22-17 for the 37-25 halftime lead.
Seguin won the third quarter but only by a point, 15-14, and the Charger lead was 51-32 as the game went to the fourth.
In the final stanza, Champion doubled up the Matadors, 12-6, for the win.
Braden Baum led the team with 21 points, Dakarai Hodge added 14, while Charlie Georgelos and Baeden Burdick scored 10 points apiece as four Chargers were in double digits. Mason Wyatt netted 4, while Quinn Grable and Tre Hudspeth both chipped in with 2.
