Hound swimmers compete at regionals, several advance to state

SAN ANTONIO – Boerne High recently competed at the Region IV-4A meet and both Greyhound varsity squads finished in the top 7.

SAN ANTONIO – Boerne High recently competed at the Region IV-4A meet and both Greyhound varsity squads finished in the top 7.

The top two finishers from each of the four regions advances to state set for this weekend in San Antonio, plus the next eight fastest times also qualify for state, regardless of region, for three heats at state.

The Hounds were in a fast region and advanced 12 athletes based on call-up times after Henry Johnson was the only automatic qualifier after he won his race for a total of 13 at state.

At regionals, the BHS girls finished 6th with 154 points and the Boerne boys came in 7th with 144 points.

RESULTS

In the 200-yard medley relay, Brinley Robinson, Ella Parsons, Kiali Cunningham and Brenna McCarty teamed up for 3rd place with a time of 2:02 for 32 points, while the boys 200-medley relay of Henry Johnson, Cooper Wagner, Carter Schuessler and Michael Villarreal came in 4th with a time of 1:46 for 30 points.

Sadie Smurr placed 12th in the 200 freestyle after clocking in at 2:22 for 5 points, Jack Parsons came in 11th in the 200yard IM with a 2:29 for 6 points, while Cooper Wagner placed 6th in the 50 free after a time of 23.67 for 13 points and Carter Schuessler was 14th with a 25.01 for 3 points.

Kiali Cunningham came in 5th in the 100-yard butterfly after touching the wall in 1:05 for 14 points, while Henry Johnson and Cooper Wagner went 3-4 in the boys 100 fly with times of 57.13 and 57.03 for 16 and 15 points.

Brenna McCarty placed 3rd in the 100 freestyle after clocking in at 59.18 for 16 points and Carter Schuessler was 8th in the boys 100 free with a 55.37 for 11 points.

In the girls 200-yard freestyle relay, Kiali Cunningham, Brinley Robinson, Ella Parsons and Brenna McCarty combined for a 1:50 for 6th and 26 team points.

Brenna McCarty picked up 6 points in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07 for 6th place, while Henry Johnson blew away the field in the 100 backstroke after recording a time of 55.56 to win by 5 seconds for 20 points and a gold medal.

In the girls 100-yard breaststroke, Kiali Cunningham finished 5th with a time of 1:15 for 14 points and Ella Parsons was 7th in 1:16 for 12 more points.

The girls 400-yard freestyle relay came in 8th with a time of 4:26 for 22 team points to round out the scoring for the girls team. Members of the relay were Cassidy Collier, Mary Rich, Bella McCarty and Sadie Smurr.

In the boys 400 free relay, Cooper Wagner, Isaac Martin Johnson, Carter Schuessler and Henry Johnson teamed up for 4th and 30 team points with a time of 3:33 to round out the scoring on the boys side.
