Greyhound swim teams capture second at district meet

SAN ANTONIO – The Boerne High varsity swim teams were in action at last weekend’s District 15-4A meet at the Alamo Heights Natatorium where both Greyhound squads finished second.

The top six relay on individuals advance to this weekend’s regional meet in San Antonio at the Southwest ISD Aquatic Center with state berths up for grabs.

At district, Great Hearts Monte Vista won both the boys and girls competitions with their girls scoring 183 points and the boys had 118 to edge the Boerne boys by a point.

The BHS boys tallied 117 for second and the Boerne girls were second at 97. Cole, Randolph, Great Hearts Northern Oaks, Fox Tech and Uvalde were also at the district meet.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Boerne girls were 2nd after Brinley Robinson, Ella Parsons, Kiali Cunningham and Brenna McCarty teamed up for a 2:04, while the boys team of Henry Johnson, Cooper Wagner, Carter Schuessler and Michael Villarreal also came up 2nd with a combined time of 1:47.

Sadie Smurr finished 4th in the 200 free at 2:22, while in the boys 200 IM, Jack Parsons clocked in at 2:33 for 3rd.

Ella Parsons took 7th in the 50 free with a time of 29.58, while in the boys 50 free, Cooper Wagner captured 1st in 23.63, Carter Schuessler was 2nd in 25.03, Michael Villarreal placed 6th in 25.94 and Isaac Martin Johnson came in 7th in 26.39.

Kiali Cunningham won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04, Cassidy Collier placed 7th in the event with a 1:22, while the BHS boys took 3 of the top 5 spots in the boys 100 fly. Henry Johnson earned gold with a 55.06, Cooper Wagner claimed silver with a 58.15 and Cannon Kunz came in 5th at 1:09.

In the 100 free, Brenna McCarty finished 2nd in 1:00, Brinley Robinson placed 5th in 1:04 and Sadie Smurr was 6th in 1:06. 

In the boys 100 free, Carter Schuessler took the top spot with a time of 53.88, Isaac Martin Johnson placed 5th in 59.20 and Tristan Wood was 7th in 1:00.

The Boerne girls had a 2nd-place finish in the 200-free relay after Kiali Cunningham, Brinley Robinson, Ella Parsons and Brenna McCarty teamed up for a time of 1:53.

Brenna McCarty then took 2nd in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08, Brinley Robinson was 5th in 1:14 and Bella McCarty came in 8th with a 1:23.

Henry Johnson won another event after he clocked in at 56.44 for 1st in the boys 100 backstroke, Tristan Wood was 5th in 1:09 and Jack Parsons placed 6th with a 1:12.

Kiali Cunningham recorded a time of 1:14 for 2nd in the 100 breaststroke, Ella Parsons was 4th in 1:19 and Bella McCarty came in 8th at 1:26.

In the boys 100 breaststroke, Cannon Kuntz clocked in at 1:18 for 5th and Michael Villarreal was 6th at 1:22.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Cassidy Collier, Mary Rich, Bella McCarty and Sadie Smurr teamed up for 3rd with a time of 4:28, while the boys 400-free relay of Cooper Wagner, Carter Schuessler, Jack Parsons and Henry Johnson captured 1st after recording a 3:38.
