Chargers club Cougars in district opener

The Boerne Champion boys opened district play last Friday against New Braunfels Canyon and clubbed the Cougars, 74-49, to start 26-5A action at 1-0.

Champion improves to 19-1 overall and continued league play Tuesday at home against Kerrville Tivy.

Champion took control early and hit for at least 20 points in the first two quarters. They were leading 28-11 after one and then outscored NBC in the second, 20-14, for the 48-25 halftime lead.

Canyon took the third but only by two points, 11-9, before the Chargers outscored them in the final stanza, 17-13.

Braden Baum led the team with 26 points, Dakarai Hodge added 18, while Charlie Georgelos and Quinn Grable both netted 14 to make it four Chargers in double digits.

Jackson Marshall finished with 4 points, Alex Gonzales and Mason Wyatt both scored 3, while Louis Hudspeth and Cole Riha chipped in with 2 points apiece.
