The Comfort Deer traveled to downtown San Antonio on Friday night to take on the Young Woman’s Leadership Academy at Lanier High School and suffered a 40-18 defeat.
With the loss the Deer fall to 11-11 on the season. They will take a long winter’s nap before resuming play on Dec. 30 at Leakey.
Friday’s game was close early and YWLA was up by a couple of points at 11-9 but then Comfort’s offense stalled in the second and the Deer didn’t score a single point, while their opponents netted 12 for the 23-9 halftime lead.
YWLA blew it open in the third by outscoring the Deer 17-5 for the 40-14 lead.
Neither team did much offensively in the fourth quarter as the Comfort girls only tallied 4 points and YWLA didn’t record a single point but still won by 22 points.
Katelyn Cook and Bailey Feldman both scored 5 points for the Deer, Jackie Zapata added 4, while Katie Haffner and Emily Rivera finished with 2 points apiece.
