Charger finish second at Border Olympics Hoopfest

The Boerne Champion boys basketball team went 4-1 at the Border Olympics Hoopfest held last weekend in Laredo and finished second overall.

The Boerne Champion boys basketball team went 4-1 at the Border Olympics Hoopfest held last weekend in Laredo and finished second overall.

Champion won its first four games at the tourney to make it to the championship game, before suffering its first loss of the season to stand at 12-1.

It was the Chargers’ second tournament of the year and they’ve made it to the tourney finals in both. They’ll have one more when they help co-host the Boerne ISD Tournament on Dec. 27-28. Before then, the Chargers hosted Sam Houston on Tuesday.

Braden Baum and Charlie Georgelos were both named to the All-Tournament team at the Border Olympics Hoopfest.

In Laredo, the Chargers opened the tourney with a 57- 12 defeat of Crystal City. Also on Thursday, Champion handled Laredo United South, 50- 29.

The Chargers returned to action on Friday and beat another Laredo school, this one Laredo United, 63-37, and later in the day, Champion smothered Somerset, 56-46 to close out the day at 4-0.

Champion only played one game on Saturday and suffered its first loss of the year to Laredo Alexander in the championship contest, 58-50.
