Richard was born in New York City, New York (Bronx), on Feb. 6, 1943, to Nathan and Roslyn (Mintzer) Manas who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Christine Richardson. He is survived by loving family members including his brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Tammie Manas, of Georgetown, Texas, along with their children, Meredith, Daniel and his wife Amanda, and their children, Cooper and Charlotte; Richard’s daughter, Karen Medina of Boerne and faithful ranch hand, Martin Medina, along with their children, Mary, Kayla and her husband Joe, and their children Amelia and Leland. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Steven Standley and his wife Maria, Bethany Gerardi and her husband Joseph, Lana Richardson/ Buttner and her sons Cole and Hunter, and Forrest Richardson with his wife, Shelley, and their children Joshua and Joel, and grandchild Noah.
He graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1960 and Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1964. He then studied law at the University of Miami, receiving a doctorate in jurisprudence in 1967. This was followed by a career practicing labor law, representing management, together with Maritza Rojas, his legal assistant, until 1996 when he moved to San Antonio, where he practiced for several years with the firm of Oppenheimer, Blend, Harrison, and Tate. This was followed by, perhaps his most treasured years raising horses, sheep, and his dogs on the Sisterdale Horse Farm, together with Christine and continuing up to the time of his passing.
Richard was a kind, caring, and generous person who had an incredible love for people and animals. He helped people who needed financial and other support including needed medical care.
As a result of Richard’s desire to help others, he served on the Sisterdale Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Immediately following the funeral service, the Sisterdale Fire Department will honor Richard with a Last Call and a procession to the fire station for a reception.
Richard will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express appreciation to the numerous friends and relatives who provided loving support and care during the past few years as Richard’s health declined, as well as to the medical staff, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare workers, at hospitals in San Antonio, Austin, Kerrville, and Boerne, and a special nurse, Ariane, at his dialysis facility.
