BOERNE — A 39-year-old man is back behind bars after being accused of violating his probation stemming from a plea deal in 2019 on bestiality charges.
Robert Benjamin Cairns of Boerne was booked into the Kendall County Jail Thursday evening after Community Supervision Officer Mario Paredes filed a motion to revoke his bond.
Cairns is suspected of violating several bond conditions, according to court records.
“It is recommended that defendant’s probation be adjudicated, revoked and sentenced to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division to a term deemed appropriate by this court,” Paredes’ motion reads.
According to the document, Cairns tested positive for marijuana, failed to pay monthly installments to fulfill his court costs, failed to pay his $50 commitment to Crime Stoppers and did not file detailed financial statements for more than 15 months across 2021 and 2022 as required by his probationary terms.
In addition, the court filing indicates Cairns didn’t complete any of the 100 hours of community service he was ordered to perform at 16 hours per month following his 2019 plea agreement.
Search warrant affidavits show the bestiality charges against Cairns stemmed from a report by a local teacher to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, more commonly known as Child Protective Services.
The woman reported Cairns after he sent her a photo of the genitals of a young girl he claimed was his 12-year-old daughter, inviting the woman to come “teach” his daughter with him, investigators said.
When the search warrant based on the teacher’s claims was signed by 451st state District Judge Kirsten Cohoon in July 2019, it was learned the child was not Cairns’ but an image he downloaded online, according to records.
However, investigators told the court when they searched Cairns’ electronic devices on the allegations of child pornography, they instead discovered he had filmed himself having sex with a horse and forcing a dog to perform sexual acts on him.
While Cairns’ deferred adjudication, which would have allowed him to avoid a guilty plea if he adhered to his probationary terms, was set to run until 2026, he will now face the full punishment range for the state jail felony charge of bestiality.
He is facing 180 days to two years in lockup.
