Comfort High tipped off its 2022-23 boys basketball season Tuesday night on the road at Knippa.
Knippa nipped the Bobcats by five points, 50-45, to start Comfort’s season at 0-1. CHS hosted Devine on Friday and will welcome Fredericksburg Monday at 2:30 p.m.
Despite the loss, Comfort was leading at the end of the first quarter against Knippa, 16-12, but the Crushers took control in the second by winning the period, 19-10, and took a 31-26 lead into halftime.
Knippa held the Bobcats to 6 points in the third and dropped in 11 to open up a 42-32 advantage.
Comfort mounted a nice comeback in the fourth, but it came up short. The Cats won the fourth quarter 13-8 and lost by 5 points.
Santos Hernandez led the Bobcats with 16 points, Tyler Stanton and Terick Rodriguez added 9 points apiece, Landon Aguirre scored 4, Caleb Van Geffen tallied 3 and Noah Southwick and Aidan Schwarz both netted 2.
