The Comfort High girls basketball team picked up its first win of the young season Saturday against Junction.
Comfort held on to defeat the Eagles by four points, 32-28 and improves to 1-1. The Deer traveled to San Antonio on Tuesday to face South San West Campus.
In Saturday’s game, Comfort doubled up Junction in the first quarter, 12-6, and then both squads scored 10 points in the second to give the Deer a 22-16 halftime advantage.
Both teams tied again in the third as the offenses slowed down and only tallied 5 points apiece, but the Deer held a 27-21 advantage.
Junction won the fourth quarter, and it was the only time in the game where they outscored the Deer in any of the periods, but it wasn’t by much.
The Eagles scored 7 points and Comfort only netted 5 but it was enough for the four-point victory.
Lula Jaime and Bailey Feldman tied for teamhigh honors with 7 points apiece, Katelyn Cook finished with 6 points and hit two of the team’s three 3-pointers, Katie Haffner tallied 5 points, while Janelly Lopez, Jackie Zapata and Emily Rivera all netted 2 each and Jael Hernandez hit a free throw.
Haffner finished with 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists, Zapata grabbed 7 rebounds and came up with 5 steals and 3 assists, Feldman tallied 5 steals and Hernandez came up with 3 steals.
