The Boerne Champion girls basketball team played in its first tourney of the year last weekend when they were entered in the Rouse Tip Off Classic and the Lady Chargers had a strong showing.
Champion advanced to the title game and lost to Round Rock for the tourney title, 62-56. The Lady Chargers went 3-2 at the event and stand at 4-2 overall.
Two Lady Chargers made the all-tournament team after Addison Hankins and Madyson Marquard both received the honor.
Champion visited San Antonio on Tuesday and played Warren at Northside’s Taylor Field House. After that, the team is at home on Monday to host Fredericksburg at 12:30 p.m. and Stevens on Tuesday before taking a break for Thanksgiving.
At the tourney, the Lady Chargers opened with a one-point loss to Lampasas, 55-54.
Madyson Marquard led the team with 13 points, Adriana Barreiro added 8, Bralyn Gault chipped in with 7, Addison Hankins had 6, Grace Erbstoesser tallied 5 and Alivia Gonzales chipped in with 4.
From there, Champion reeled off three wins in a row, defeating Dripping Springs, 42-31, clobbering Copperas Cove, 53-28, and handling Hutto, 66-37.
Against Drip, Madyson Marquard was in double digits with 14 points, Adriana Barreiro scored 8, Bralyn Gault added 5, Hudson Lonsdale had 4, while Olivia Keilman and Alivia Gonzales both chipped in with 2.
Against Copperas Cove, Adriana Barreiro led the team in scoring with 14 points, Hudson Lonsdale netted 11, Addison Hankins scored 8, Madyson Marquard finished with 7 and Abby Sommer added 3.
Against Hutto, Grace Erbstoesser led the team in scoring with 16 points, Madyson Marquard finished with 11 points, Olivia Keilman 8, Hudson Lonsdale and Adriana Barreiro both netted 6, Christine McGinn added 4, while Hailey Winn, Alivia Gonzales and Abby Sommer all scored 3.
Champion’s win against Hutto moved the Chargers to the championship game against Round Rock where they lost by six points.
Coach Jason Sanders said they missed too many free throws and a look at the stats reveals that the Lady Chargers were 10 for 27 for 37 percent shooting at the foul line.
Madyson Marquard paced the Chargers with 14 points, Grace Erbstoesser finished with 13, Hudson Lonsdale added 11, Addison Hankins scored 9 and Adriana Barreiro had 5.
