The Geneva School of Boerne girls basketball team improved to 2-0 after the Lady Eagles defeated Corpus Christi Incarnate Word Academy, 47-30.
Geneva was scheduled to play St. Michael’s Catholic Academy on Friday and will host San Antonio Christian on Tuesday before playing in the Cornerstone Tournament next weekend.
Even though it was a 17-point win, Geneva was trailing early in the game. IWA was winning 12-5 at the end of the first quarter, but the Eagles started to rally in the second and outscored the Angels in the period, 14-12, to trail at the half, 24-19.
Geneva caught the Corpus Christi school in the second half and pulled away. The Eagles outscored the Angels in the third, 13-3, and took a 32-27 edge into the fourth quarter.
It was more of the same in the fourth after the Eagles dropped in 15 and held IWA to just three points for the second time in the half.
Geneva outscored theAngels in the second half, 28-6.
Maegan Riebel led the team with 22 points, Bethany Deluna added 8, Kyra Petty dropped in 7, Morgan Howard chipped in with 4, Suzie Nilsson had 3, Madeline Egbert scored 2 and Kailey Kirchner hit a free throw.
Riebel made it a double- double after she grabbed 18 rebounds, 8 on the offensive end, to go with her 22 points, Petty also had a good night on the boards and collected 9 rebounds and dished out 3 assists while Deluna finished with 4 assists and 3 steals.
