Geneva School of Boerne travels to Holy Cross on Friday with the TAPPS DIII – 3 title on the line.
The Eagles visit San Antonio to take on the Knights at 7 p.m.
Geneva, Holy Cross, Schertz John Paul II and Corpus Christi John Paul II are in a small district with only four teams, so they only have three district games each.
Both Geneva and Holy Cross are 2-0 in league play entering the contest, so it’s pretty cut and dry – Friday’s winner is crowned this year’s district champion and the loser comes in second.
Eagles coach Julius Scott said it doesn’t get any better than two undefeated district teams meeting on the last night of the regular season for the league championship.
Scott added that it’s been quite a journey for Geneva that played some very good teams in non-district.
“We’re in the middle of a fantastic journey. The ups and downs of our season and how our kids have responded is simply magnificent,” he said. “The adversity that they have overcome to be playing for the district championship is truly inspiring.”
Geneva is 5-4 overall and was 3-4 in non-district play before beating the two JP
Geneva’s KP FitzGerald ran for two touchdowns and almost 200 yards in last week’s district game. The Eagles are in San Antonio to battle Holy Cross for the district title.

All the other Knights games have been blowouts and they even scored 73 points against New Braunfels Christian Academy and are averaging 41 points per game.
“Holy Cross is an excellent program, they haven’t really had a close game other than the one they lost to a team from Louisiana,” Scott said. “They are good on both sides of the ball, and we definitely have our hands full.”
Geneva dominated last week’s game against Schertz John Paul II and won 31-7. The Eagles rolled to 387 total yards, with 339 of those on the ground.
All four of Geneva’s touchdowns were rushing TDs after KP FitzGerald ran for two, while Henry Jons and George Viña had the other two. Walker Cone made all four of his extra points and booted a 28-yard field goal.
Jackson Grimes was in at quarterback and only threw 8 passes, completing 6 of them for 48 yards.
FitzGerald finished with 187 rushing yards on 21 carries for an average of 8.9 yards per pop.
Caeden Sandifer ran 7 times for 49 yards, while Jons and Viña only carried a combined four times but had one touchdown apiece. Hayden Allen and Landon Grimes came up with interceptions for the Geneva defense that limited the Guardians to 98 total yards, 30 on the ground and 68 through the air.
