COMFORT– Just hear those sleigh bells ring ting tingling. It’s that joyful time of year again when The Greater Comfort Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors one of the most popular Christmas extravaganzas in the Texas Hill Country: Christmas in Comfort.
Comfort is located just minutes from Boerne, Kerrville and Fredericksburg and 30 minutes from San Antonio. About two hours from Austin, this is the perfect small-town Christmas setting, which is rich with history and charm. The traditional event is free to all, so plan to bring the entire family to this fun-filled day in Comfort’s Historic District Saturday, Nov. 26. Shoppers should plan to arrive early and bring a holiday shopping list when visiting local merchants who have Decked the Halls with sparkling décor and 100 or more arts and crafts vendors who will have booths on 7th and High streets. Arts and crafts vendors located on High Street will be available 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but vendors on 7th Street will be available from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. All local merchants, eateries, tasting rooms and art galleries will be open for special hours throughout the day.
Many family activities will be taking place throughout the day. Be sure to visit the twinkling-eyed Santa for photos and wish whispers. There will also be a petting zoo (weather permitting), as well as the ever-popular artistic face painter. Then at the corner of High Street and 7th, the Heritage Society will be providing traditional gingerbread cookies for painting. On the opposite corner, the Comfort Library will host children’s craft activities on the side porch. While you’re in the area, check out the library’s gently used book sale in the Book Barn.
The joyful buzz of shoppers and merchants will be surrounded by live music from 7th Street and 8th Street corners. Prepare to find scrumptious meals and snacks from the food vendors and the numerous restaurants located throughout the Historic District and on the fringes. The Chamber will host its own booth for liquid refreshments – hot, cold and spiritous.
As the sun begins to set over this Christmas wonderland, the traditional lighted parade will begin its way down High Street around 7 p. m. Horns honking, sirens whirling, Merry Christmas wishers wishing, pageant winners waving and holiday- decked floats will hope to capture the attention of young and old alike. As you prepare your belongings and gather your treasures from this magical day, fireworks are set to burst into the sky with a thunderous boom. The Comfort Chamber of Commerce and the Christmas in Comfort Committee invite all and their families to join in the festivities Saturday, Nov. 26 for the 36th Anniversary of Christmas in Comfort. The chamber and committee wish all a Happy 2022 Holiday Season.
