Champion boys earn two district victories

Boerne Champion earned a pair of district wins in boys basketball after the Chargers defeated Kerrville Tivy at home Saturday and picked up a road victory last Tuesday in Seguin.

Boerne Champion earned a pair of district wins in boys basketball after the Chargers defeated Kerrville Tivy at home Saturday and picked up a road victory last Tuesday in Seguin.

The Chargers have two district games left and visit Buda Johnson Tuesday before visiting New Braunfels Canyon on Friday. Champion is 25-6 overall and 12-2 in district.

Vs. Kerrville Tivy

Champion clipped the Antlers, 77-33, Saturday afternoon at Charger Gym.

They won every quarter and were up 25-13 after one, and then outscored Tivy in the second, 16-5, for the 42-18 halftime lead.

The Chargers knocked in 21 in the third to outscore the Antlers by 10 and in the fourth, Champion won the quarter, 15-4.

Three Chargers were in double figures after Jesse Peart netted 19, while Braxton Burdick and Braden Baum both scored 15.

Ryan Erdos chipped in 7, Charlie Georgelos and Owen Tate both recorded 6, Jackson Marshall had 5, Alex Gonzales hit for 3 and Luke Garver made a free throw.

Vs. Seguin

The Matadors played Champion tough but the Chargers prevailed, 60-55.

Champion was ahead by a point at the end of the first quarter, 17-16, and then took a one-point lead (28-27) into halftime after both teams scored 11 in the second.

Champion won the third period by four points, 18-14, and opened up a 46-41 advantage going into the fourth.

The final period played out a lot like the second when they both hit for the same amount of points, 14, to give Champion the five-point win.

Braxton Burdick and Charlie Georgelos netted 16 apiece, while Owen Tate and Jesse Peart both finished with 11 points to make it four Chargers in double figures.

Ryan Erdos added 4, while Justin Hill and Hunter Lampkin hit one free throw each.
