Both the Boerne High varsity cross country teams qualified for this year’s 4A state meet after their performances at Monday’s regional meet in Corpus Christi.

The Boerne High boys took second as a team, while the Lady Greyhounds were fourth. The top four teams advance to the state meet scheduled for next weekend at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.

The 4A state meet is set for Friday, Nov. 4, with the girls racing at 8:30 a.m. and the boys scheduled to run at 9 a.m.

“The kids stepped up,” BHS cross country coach Chris Carter said about qualifying both teams to state.

 

Varsity Boys

The Boerne boys were second with 133 points and were behind a La Feria team that scored 33 points to win the meet by 100 points. La Feria had three runners in the top 7, four in the top 10 and all five scoring runners within the top 13.

Bandera came in third (150) and Davenport was fourth (176) to both qualify.

Tyson Farar led the BHS boys with a time of 17:29 for 15th, Carsten Bain came in 25th in 18:10.88, Caleb Benchoff finished three spots back in 28th with a 18:14.86 and Barrett Crofut was 30th after completing the course in a time of 18:18.72.

Cole Palmer ran an 18:32 for 35th place, Parker Powell clocked in at 19:20.38 for 67th and Ben Macias recorded a time of 19:34.10 for 80th.

 

Varsity Girls

The Lady Greyhounds tallied 144 points to secure fourth place and snag a state berth. Fredericksburg won the region with 50 points; La Feria was second (98) and Sinton came in third (136).

Eleanor Davis led the Boerne girls with an 11th-place finish after she turned in a time of 12:27.50 in the two-mile race.

Maddie Morris finished 19th in 12:43.98, Mary Marino placed 22nd with a 12:50.89, Endie Boddie was 44th in 13:20.25, Mahaley Merkins came in 48th with a time of 13:33.30, Kelsey Farar finished in 13:57.43 for 78th and Sophia Karageorge rounded out the team after she was 88th in a time of 14:11.
