It’s been a struggle for the Boerne Champion football team this year, especially once district play started on Sept. 16.
Since then, the Chargers have dropped five straight in District 12-5A DI, but Champion has a chance to stop the skid and finish with victories in its final two games.
This week, the Chargers host Kyle Lehman and are hoping to defeat the Lobos for homecoming. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Boerne ISD Stadium
Lehman is in the exact same boat as Champion and is 0-5 in district. The Lobos are also 2-6 overall just like the Chargers.
Lehman lost its last game to MacArthur, a team the Chargers haven’t played yet. Their four other district losses have come to teams that Champion has fallen too as well (Wagner, Smithson Valley, NB Canyon and Seguin).
Champion faces MacArthur next Friday at Heroes Stadium to close out the regular season.
After scoring 32 against Canyon, 29 against Buda Hays and 21 vs. Seguin, the Chargers have struggled to put the ball in the end zone and only tallied 7 against Wagner and were kept off the board last week against the Rangers for their first shutout in two years.
Without a playoff chance, Champion coach Keith Kaiser said they would use the final few games to get valuable reps for the players to gain experience and take into next year.
