The Hill Country Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) held its September chapter meeting at St. Helena’s Episcopal Church in Boerne where a chapter member and two Boerne youths were honored for their service.
Boerne resident, Lt. Col. Jeff Addicott, U.S. Army (retired) described the activities of the Warrior Defense Project and how they had successfully provided legal aid to service members wrongfully accused of misconduct in the performance of their official duties. Addicott is a professor of Law and the director of the Warrior Defense Project at St. Mary’s University School of Law. He also served as a judge advocate in the Army for 20 years and is an internationally recognized expert on terrorism law.
Addicott described one case where he successfully defended a soldier who was court martialed for violating the Rules of Engagement by shooting a vehicle an enemy combatant was using to escape. Addicott was also able to help an Air Force officer resign with an honorable discharge after an investigation for complaining about his command teaching Critical Race Theory even though then-President Trump had banned it.
The chapter also celebrated POW/MIA Recognition Day with a POW/MIA table and the associated ceremony. Chapter member, Joe Milligan, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel who was a prisoner during the Vietnam War, was also honored.
The 232nd birthday of the Coast Guard and 75th birthday of the Air Force were celebrated with a cake and the playing of the service songs.
Two Boerne students who were top leaders at last summer’s Youth Leadership Conference received medals. A Bronze Patrick Henry medal was presented to Tucker Rouse for his selection as the top leader at the USS LEXINGTON YLC. A Youth Merit Medal was presented to Cadet Luke Christman for his selection as top leader by his group at Texas A&M YLC.
