Geneva football team back at home this Friday

The Geneva School of Boerne football team is back at home this Friday after two straight road games.

Geneva hosts Blanco in Boerne, 7 p.m.

And while being at home is something Eagles head coach Julius Scott appreciates; the coach points out that it doesn’t guarantee anything.

“It’ll be nice to get back to our field with our enthusiastic crowd but as far as home field advantage, I’m not sure,” he said. “Whatever team will execute the best will win.”

Geneva (1-2) won its opener at home against St. Michael’s (27-20) but lost on the road at Randolph (27-21) and Austin Regents (47-0).

Blanco beat up on Comfort last week, 50-0, for its first win of the year. The Panthers lost at Poth (21-14) and to Antonian at home (24-16).

From the scouting report he’s seen, Scott said Blanco has improved every week.

“Blanco has played a tough schedule as we have. I see progress from the first game to the third,” he said. “Once again, it will be a great opportunity for us to grow.”

Geneva struggled last Friday against perennial TAPPS state power Austin Regents and only tallied 99 yards from scrimmage (48 passing and 51 rushing) to go with three turnovers, but Scott said there’s a benefit to playing a team like the Knights.

“I believe that we will benefit down the road from the lessons we learned by playing Regents,” Scott said.

Jayden McCammon led the ground game with 35 yards rushing and ripped off a 27-yard gainer, while Landon Grimes was the team’s leading receiver with 44 yards on five catches. Geneva QB Jacob Rosenstiel completed 10 of his 25 attempts for 48 yards.

Defensively, Logan Fritcher had three tackles and seven assists to go with one sack, George Viña came up with three tackles and two assists and a sack, while Caeden Sandifer assisted on five tackles and KP Fitzgerald intercepted a pass.

Scott said he couldn’t ask for anything more from his squad.

“I’m extremely proud of our team and their effort,” he said.
