From Staff Reports

The Boerne Star has expanded its editorial staff by adding Champion High School senior Scarlet Lyons as an intern.

Lyons will handle various writing and photography assignments for the paper throughout the 2022-23 academic year.

“It’s great to have Scarlet with us,” Managing Editor Keith E. Domke said. “She’s a talented writer who already knows her way around a newsroom. She will be an asset for both us and the community as we continue to cover and partner with Kendall County.”

Lyons currently is the editor in chief of the Champion High School yearbook, as well as an active member in student leadership and student council. After attending Montessori School for most of her education, she transferred to Champion 2½ years ago.

“I absolutely love it,” she said.

As far as becoming The Star’s 2022-23 student intern, Lyons said, “I really enjoy being involved in the community, which is one of the reasons I’m looking forward to my internship with The Boerne Star. I’m excited to attend events in the area, meet new people in the Boerne area and tell their stories.

“This internship will help me not only with job skills of deadlines and working on a team, but to be an effective listener and treat other people’s experiences with respect. I know these skills will help me as I pursue first a degree in communication and then on to law school with the hopes of becoming an attorney. I look forward to sharing the stories of Boerne!”

Lyons is the second high school student in as many years to serve as an intern at The Star. Last year, Tenley Jackson, then a senior at Boerne High School and also the editor of the yearbook there at the time, served in the role and helped the paper cover the community.

Jackson is now a freshman at the University of Texas in Austin.

“There are so many talented students in Boerne ISD,” Domke said. “It’s truly a pleasure to get to work with students from both of our esteemed high schools. For the second consecutive year, we’re blessed to have a yearbook editor on our team who already knows the nuts and bolts of the profession.

“Be on the lookout for some Scarlet bylines in the near future!”
