BLANCO – The Comfort High School football team failed to find the winning formula again on Friday night as the Bobcats were stuffed by host Blanco, 50-0.
With the loss, Comfort remains winless this year at 0-3 after losing to Johnson City and Ingram Moore earlier this season. Blanco, meanwhile, nabbed its first win of the campaign.
Seniors Devin Newsome and Nathan Tomlinson scored two touchdowns apiece for the Panthers, who are now 1-2 heading into a Sept. 16 matchup at the Geneva School of Boerne.
Blanco’s first score of the game came on a 4-yard Newsome run that followed a pick-6 from Rowdy Topper. Next, Adrian Carrillo scooped up a Comfort fumble and rumbled to paydirt from 29 yards out to gave Blanco a 13-0 advantage.
Tomlinson scored on a 19-yard sweep to give Blanco a 20-0 lead before Carson Smith netted a 1-yard TD to give the hosts a 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Kayden Pettit opened the second-period scoring with a 1-yard score to make it 33-0. Newsome found the end zone from 15 yards out and Tomlinson crossed the goal line on a 4-yard run to push the score to 47-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Panthers ran the ball to chew up the clock. The only score after the intermission came on a 36-yard Tomlinson field goal.
Jaydin Steward led the Comfort offense by rushing for 51 yards on seven carries. Isaac Duran netted 43 yards on 16 attempts. Quarterback Micah Nye completed 3 of 8 passes for 34 yards.
The Bobcats travel to Brackett on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
