The Boerne Champion girls cross country team had a strong showing last Saturday at its first official meet of the year when the Lady Chargers raced at the FEAST XC Invitational and took first.
The Lady Chargers tallied 65 points to beat Vandegrift (84) and NB Canyon (170) in the field of 31 teams that ran in the 5K race. The Champion boys competed as well and finished 15th in a strong field.
Champion was scheduled to run this weekend in the Pieper Relays. For results, be sure to check the Boerne Star.
Varsity Girls
Chargers freshman Elizabeth Leachman led the way for the team after she was fourth with a time of 18:16, Josey Whitaker came in seventh after clocking in at 18:36 and Kynley Albright turned in an 18:40 for ninth as Champion had three in the top 10 after adjusted scoring.
Grace Flores posted a 19:14 to come in 21st, Jenna Koepke ran a 19:17 for 24th, Kendall Fallon finished in 19:47 for 41st, Grace Mondini crossed the finish line in 19:54 for 44th, while Meghan Huerta (20:16), Erin Shrader (20:28) and Kamryn Neer (20:55) rounded out the squad.
Varsity Boys
The Champion boys tallied 484 points for 15th in the field of 37 teams.
A couple of sophomores led the team after Luis Tovar and Charles Houck went 73rd and 80th with times of 16:59 and 17:03.
Ben Matamoros finished in 17:17 in 100th place, Caleb Dehart posted a 17:21 for 105th, Noah Perez ran the race in 17:42 for 126th, Noah Shelby finished in 135th with a 17:52 and Patrick Thornton posted a 17:59 for 145th.
