CASTROVILLE – Boerne High kicked off its 2022 cross country season last Saturday in Castroville at the Medina Valley Panthers Invitational.
The Greyhounds came out of the gate strong after the girls took first place and the boys were second in their respective varsity races.
BHS is scheduled to run again this Saturday at the FEAST Patriot Invitational.
Varsity Girls
Boerne High claimed first place with 46 points after the Lady Hounds produced the top two runners in the race. Pleasanton came in second with 59 points.
Boerne’s Eleanor Davis and Mary Marino went 1-2 with times of 12:15 and 12:28 in the two-mile race where the score is based on a team’s top 5 finishers.
Endie Boddie placed 8th in 13:06, Mahaley Merkins finished 14th in 13:22, Genevieve Sengler posted a 13:39 for 21st, Kelsey Farar ran a 13:43 and was one spot back in 22nd, while Sophia Karageorge was 24th in 13:52 to round out the top 7.
Penelope Rouse completed the race in 13:54 and Addison Dayoc ran a 15:13 to account for all nine BHS runners in the varsity race.
Varsity Boys
Lytle ran away with the boys title after scoring 43 points, but the Hounds were a solid second with 103 points, just ahead of the Great Hearts Northern Oaks team, which was third with 110 points.
Caleb Benchoff had Boerne’s highest finish after he was 13th in 17:05, while Tayson Farar was two spots back in 15th with a 17:09.
Cole Palmer placed 21st with a time of 17:27, Chase Balderas came in 25th in 17:36, Parker Powell clocked in at 17:45 for 29th, Ben Macias posted an 18:08 for 38th and Prince Hunter ran an 18:24 for 45th to round out the top 7
Jake Pearson also ran for BHS and finished in 18:52 and Ethan Christianson turned in a time of 19:44.
