Comfort drops season opener

The Geneva School of Boerne gave its home crowd a reason to soar on its way home Friday night as the Eagles opened their 2022 season with a 27-20 victory over visiting Austin St. Michael’s.

The win puts Geneva at 1-0 with a game at Randolph this Friday.

The Eagles got on the board first with a 4-yard run by Landon Grimes before the Crusaders tallied twice to take a 14-7 lead at the first stop.

Geneva knotted the score at 14 in the second quarter when Sam Armstrong hauled in a 63-yard pass from Jacob Rosenstiel.

Walter Cone booted his second straight PAT to tie the score at halftime.

The Eagles charged ahead twice in the third quarter by sandwiching touchdowns a St. Michael’s score. The Eagles’ points came on a 57-yard run Grimes earlier in the quarter and a 7-yard scamper, again by Grimes, later in the period.

Neither team tallied points in the fourth.

On the night, Grimes rushed for 160 yards on 14 carries and tallied the 3 TDs. Armstrong added 56 rushing yards and 72 yard receiving on two catches.
