Chargers suffer only second loss of season

The Boerne Champion volleyball team has had a fast start to the 2022 season, posting a 14-1 record heading into Tuesday’s contest against the Steele Lady Knights.

Steele was able to slow down the Lady Chargers just a bit and handed the team only its second loss of the season this past Tuesday at Charger Gym.

The Lady Knights won the contest, 25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 25-23. Champion is 14-2 overall and is scheduled to play in the Smithson Valley Texas Showdown tourney that started Thursday and concludes Saturday.

Despite the loss, the Lady Chargers put up some good numbers against Steele after Emma Wegleitner (16), Raylynn Pitts (13) and Kelsey Rogers (12) all finished with double-digit kills.

Wegleitner also led the team in digs with 28 digs to go with 2 aces, while Izzy Maszak tallied 26 assists and Erin Fallon added 17 assists and 2 aces.

Gabriela Rossello finished with 25 digs, Maszak added 10 digs, Sadie Hoyt and Pitts both came up with 8 digs and Emmy Koke added 2 digs.
