The Hill Country Comets Track Club ended the 2022 summer season at the TAAF State Games and AAU Junior Olympic Games on top of the podium, with multiple All-Americans and numerous state and national champions.
A seasoned thrower, Bethany Preusse, even earned a prestigious state record in the discus event, while others came close with state and national recognition as being among the all-time best in their events in their particular age groups.
The program is becoming well-known across the nation as a top throwing and multi-event mecca, along with other events, gaining huge accolades and recognition, according to one of the coaches Courtney Darter-Bruce.
The Comets had three state champions, four silver medalists, three bronze medalists and 21 combined top 8 finishers out of 31 athletes qualified to compete in 60 total events at the TAAF Summer Games of Texas held in Corpus Christi, July 21 - July 24.

At the AAU National Junior Olympic Games held in Greensboro, NC, July 30 - Aug. 7, the Hill Country Comets had six national champions, four silver medalists, two bronze medalists and a combined total of 18 top 8 All-Americans out of their 60 athletes who qualified to compete in 96 events.

The coaching squad of Stefan and Jane Blomqvist, Olivia Bennett, Courtney Darter-Bruce, Michael Harbuck, Blake and Kelly Kidder, Jamie Amerman, Amber Clowney, Shari Carlson, Greg Jones, Shantel Leininger, Dudley and Ashley Klatt, Isaac Perez and Lauren Reeves are thankful for the community support and are so proud of each of their athletes who worked hard, demonstrated character on and off the field, and excelled even beyond records, medals and All-American status, according to Darter-Bruce.
“The coaches feel truly blessed to coach these exceptional individuals as they grow their abilities and passion in the sport of track and field, while learning many character building, life lessons along the way,” she said. “The mission of sharing the love for the sport with the youth of Boerne and the surrounding Hill Country has been the club’s No. 1 goal from the very beginning. They have been working very hard to move track and field into the popular domain of youth sports and passion has become the driving force in the Comets’ culture.”
In the fall the Comets will be offering a throwing, strength and conditioning, cross country and indoor track programs which will give great momentum as they get back to the track in April 2023.
