The Comfort Independent School District earned a “B” rating this week from the Texas Education Agency through its statewide student testing and accountability ratings.
The district’s overall score was 83 and based on the 2021-22 academic year.
“We are very pleased that the hard work of our district’s students and staff was recognized by the Texas Education Agency with Comfort ISD earning a B overall rating on the Texas Accountability System,” CISD Superintendent Tanya Monroe told The Star. “Our district is also extremely proud of all of the hard work by our students and staff through our return to normalcy and day-to-day instruction in the aftermath of COVID.”
Information states that prior to the 2017-18 academic year, the Texas Legislature established three domains for measuring the academic performance of districts and campuses: Student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps. Districts are assigned a rating from A through F for overall performance, as well as for performance in each domain.
At the individual level, Comfort High School scored an 84 and Comfort Middle School received an 80. Both are Bs. The elementary school was not rated.
“Although Comfort Elementary School showed academic gains on the 2022 STAAR assessments, the campus was not rated for 2022 by the Texas Education Agency,” Monroe said. “The Texas Legislature recognized the lingering impact of COVID learning loss that campuses continue to face and created a process for campuses that do not meet the performance target to earn at least a C to be not rated under Senate Bill 1365 as they continue to work to support student growth and learning gains.”
The district also received one distinction delegations, which acknowledge districts and campuses for outstanding achievement based on outcomes of several performance indicators. It came at the high school science level.
