Boerne Champion kicked off boys district soccer action Tuesday night at home by hosting New Braunfels Canyon.
It was a good night for Champion boys team that went on to defeat the Cougars, 3-1, at Charger Field.
Champion is 2-1-2 overall and starts 26-5A play at 1-0. They are off Friday and scheduled to play at Dripping Springs Tuesday.
The Chargers were up 2-0 by halftime and then recorded its third goal early in the second half.
NB Canyon avoided the shutout and tallied a goal late in the match on a penalty kick.
Champion coach Clifton Tierney said it was a good start to district action.
“I am very proud of these guys and the hard work they have put in,” he said. “We still have a long way to go but this was a great start.”
Calvin Perryman, Hayden Landis and Mathew Magaw all tallied goals for the Chargers, while Joshua Conrad converted the PK for the Cougars.
William Manarpaac was in goal for Champion.
