Boerne High hosted Fredericksburg in boys basketball Tuesday night and the rivalry that has historically produced close games over the years turned into a blowout for the Greyhounds.
BHS defeated a Battlin’ Billies team that is struggling this year. Boerne won 65-23 and improves to 2-0 in district and 19-6 overall. The Hounds are on the road Friday to play Wimberley.
Fredericksburg scored first in Tuesday’s game but four points by Devin Styles put the Hounds ahead 4-2 and Boerne never trailed after that.
Fred only scored two more points in the opening period and the Hounds were leading at the end of one quarter, 19-4.
The Battlin’ Billies played better in the second and managed 10 behind a pair of 3-pointers but the Greyhounds still outscored them and tallied 16 points in the period for the 35-14 halftime lead.
In the second half, Fredericksburg only managed 9 points and the Hounds outscored the Battlin’ Billies 30-9 over the last two stanzas.
BHS had three finish in double figures after Styles led all scorers with 21 points, Barrett Pape had 13 and Trevor Agarwal netted 10.
Koen Wolff scored 6, Josh Hines and Houston Hendrix added 5 points each and Sam Waters hit for 2 points.
Pape led BHS on the boards and in assists with 7 rebounds and 4 assists, while Styles and Agarwal both came up with 3 steals.
Vs. Canyon Lake
Last Friday against Canyon Lake, Devin Styles paced the Hounds with 19 points, Houston Hendrix finished with 10, Trevor Agarwal recorded 9, Barrett Pape netted 8, Koen Wolff scored 7, Preston Thompson had 5, Sam Waters chipped in with 4, Josh Hines added 3.
Hendrix grabbed 6 rebounds and 4 steals, Waters had 5 boards, Pape and Styles both snagged 4 rebounds, Pape added 3 steals to his totals, Wolff came up with 4 steals and Agarwal recorded 3 steals.
