Mary Ann Pankratz
February 22, 1934 – August 10, 2022
Mary Ann Pankratz entered her Heavenly rest on August 10, 2022. Mary Ann was born in Luckenbach, Texas, to Armin Engel and Franciska Pehl Engel on February 22, 1934.
She attended the one-room Luckenbach schoolhouse through eighth grade and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Fredericksburg. After high school, she worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone until her children came along and she dedicated herself to raising her family.
Mary Ann married her lifelong love and dancing partner, Loyd Pankratz on January 14, 1962.
She was well known for her blue-ribbon winning jams, jellies, pies, cakes, cookies, needlework, crocheting and sewing. No holiday meal was complete without the grandkids claiming the last piece of her zucchini bread.
Mary Ann loved her church, family and community. She volunteered at St. Peter’s Catholic Church
in Boerne for many years every Monday morning. Mary Ann chaired the church festival, held several
offices in the Altar Society, including president, and served on the pastoral council.
Mary Ann was president of Church Women United, an interfaith organization. She volunteered with the Kendall County Fair being the lady manager for numerous years and ran the exhibition hall during the fair. She also chaired Oma’s Christmas Fair.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Loyd; son Patrick (Theresa) of Boerne; and daughters Lorena Knezek (Walter) of Victoria and Susan Dickens (Robert) of San Antonio. Mary Ann has two grandsons, Darrell Pankratz (Brittany) and John Brown; four granddaughters, Mary Ann Knezek, Monica Knezek, Jordan Dickens and Kasey Dickens; and five great-grandchildren, Bradley, William and Olivia Pankratz and Corey and Abigail Brown. She is also survived by her sisters, Leota Rode, Julia O’Dowd and Sr. Wiona Engel; her brother, Armin (Cindy) Engel; sisters in law Jean Mohr and Darleen Sarvis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents; sister Doralene Engel; and brothers in law Calvin Rode, Mike O’Dowd, Tom Sarvis, and Martin Mohr.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. with Rosary at 6 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 10 Ama.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
