Jean Ellen Sanders
May 5, 1935 – July 22, 2022
Jean Ellen Sanders was born on May 5, 1935, in Medina, Texas. Her parents were Frank and Ora Maude (nee Sutton) Maxey. She was the youngest of seven siblings. All of her sisters and brother have preceded her in death.
Jean passed away on July 22, 2022.
Jean devoted her life caring for her three children and grandson. Even though she had to work outside the home, she was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. Everything she baked was from scratch. She always had cookies and pies when her children came home from school. Her specialty was cherry pie and peach cobbler. She mainly used the American Women’s cookbook which was published by the Culinary Arts Institute in 1951.
Jean was an avid reader on American and world history and current events. She did not graduate from high school but at 40 years old she acquired her GED. Her husband and children went to her graduation and were very proud when she was handed her diploma.
She worked at many jobs during her lifetime, including head housekeeper and social director for the Town and Country Manor Nursing Home in Boerne. Also, she was manager of a motel in West Texas and head desk clerk for La Quinta Motor Inn in San Antonio near the airport for 10 years. She also worked as a caregiver for 20 years. She worked until she was 70 years old.
Jean always put others first before herself – helping many people in need. When her husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she was determined to keep him home and take care of him. She provided care for him (day and night) for almost two years until his death.
Before Jean passed away, she had the pleasure of spending time with her great-granddaughter, Waylin Jade Sanders.
Jean’s favorite saying to her children during difficult times was “Keep the faith, there will always be a better day.” She was a strong, confident woman who always put her trust in God.
Jean is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis Sanders of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, and Pamela Sanders Gearhart and husband Terry of Boerne, Texas; and her son, Orby Dan Sanders, and his wife, Shary, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. She is also survived by her grandson, Craig Sanders, and his wife, Jordin; great-granddaughter Waylin Jade Sanders; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home with interment to follow at Boerne Cemetery.
