Shirley Ann Johnson Wilson

Shirley Ann Johnson Wilson

August 27, 1937 – July 20, 2022

Shirley Ann Johnson Wilson passed from this earthly life in her sleep on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, in Boerne. She was born on August 27, 1937, in Urbana, Ohio, as the first child of Merrill and Miriam Johnson.

She graduated from Concord High School in 1955 and attended Sienna Heights College in Michigan for one year before marrying Richard Wilson in Ohio. They moved to San Antonio and together had four children.

In San Antonio, Shirley was a fashion model for Ben Shaw Studios, president of the San Antonio Republican Women, a Cub Scout den leader, an avid Flow Blue china collector, a seamstress and a stay-at-home mom. She learned the craft of the spinning wheel during this time and would later participate in spinning demonstrations at the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio.

The family moved to Boerne in 1974 and shortly thereafter she began working part time for Mary Uecker at The Flower Shop. In 1978, she and Marilyn Noah bought The Flower Shop and later Shirley bought out her partner and was the sole owner until her retirement in November of 2016.

During her four decades as a florist, Shirley became an intricate part of the community, delivering love and emotions in the form of flowers. She made each occasion special from weddings to funerals to Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day and, of course, the ever popular homecoming mums. She shared many people’s celebrations and sorrows in Boerne and believed that being a florist was not just a job but a service to the community.

During her many years in Boerne, she was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church (attending by Facebook services since 2020), president of the Boerne Youth Athletic Association (BYAA), 4-H Club leader, a member of the American Business Women’s Association and later the Hill Country Women in Business, chamber of commerce member and numerous other organizations.  Her favorite hobbies included sewing and reading.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Randy Wilson; and her dear friend, Jack Pirtle. She is survived by sons Tony (Cassey Brei) Wilson and Vance Wilson of Boerne; and daughter Michelle (Darren) Richardson of Buffalo Springs Lake, Lubbock. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Adam Wilson, Dan’l (Kayla) Richardson and Becca Richardson; great-grandchildren Gunnar Wilson, Logan Richardson and Lacy Richardson; sister Barbara (Fred) Harshman of Augusta, Georgia; and brother ,Phillip (Alice) Johnson of Urbana, Ohio. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne from 5 to 7 p.m. with the Rosary recitation beginning at 6:30 p.m. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, August 1, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Boerne. A reception will follow in the Cana Ballroom. Her final resting place will be in Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana, Ohio.

Shirley’s family asks that you honor her memory in the way she would have wanted: by sending flowers to someone you love today. They would also like to thank caregivers Janet McDaniels, Linda Quick, Trinity Hospice and Heritage Place of Boerne for caring for Shirley with so much love and compassion through this last year.
