Curtis Heinen

Curtis Heinen

May 11, 1943 – July 21, 2022

Curtis Heinen, 79, of Boerne, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Heinen and Lillian Boales; his stepfather, Henry Kalka; his brother, Chester Heinen Jr.; his granddaughter, Megan McBee; and his grandson, Josh McBee. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Elizabeth Heinen, nee Horton; his daughters, Debra Ann Wardlow, Elizabeth Ann McBee and Kimberly Heinen-Howard and husband Jon Howard; and son Karl Jason Heinen and wife Denise Heinen. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two brothers, a sister, nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

Curtis was born Rafe Curtis Heinen on May 11, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a 1961 graduate of Bandera High School and married his high school sweetheart, Mary, in September of that same year. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in electrical engineering.

Curtis and Mary welcomed their four children by 1975. Curtis worked at Southwest Research Institute for over 25 years from where he eventually retired.

Anyone who knew Curtis though knew that retiring would not slow him down. He spent his time traveling with his wife, gardening, tending to his peach trees, working on his tractor and raising goats. He was happiest when spending time with his family, sharing with them his love of life’s simple pleasures and always taking the opportunity to teach them valuable life lessons.

Curtis was known for his servant heart, always offering a helping hand, not only to his family, but to those in need. This servant heart led him to serve as sacristan at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton where he and Mary were parishioners. His giving heart and quiet wisdom will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

We would like to thank his caregivers, Marcela, Yolanda, Michelle, Taylor, Kelly, Diane and Suncrest Hospice who compassionately cared for Curtis so he could spend his final days at home.

A visitation and rosary will be held Monday, July 25, 2022, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Leon Springs with a reception to follow at El Rio Mexican Restaurant in Boerne at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Vincent de Paul through St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church at 8500 Cross Mountain Trail, San Antonio, TX 78255. This was a cause that was near and dear to Curtis’s heart and where he served faithfully.
