Recent Boerne Champion graduate Maximus Cavazos played in the fourth annual National High School Golf Association Invitational last week in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Cavazos had a strong showing and tied for 17th with two others in a field of 333 golfers after recording a three-day score of 220 at the Pinehurst Resort course.

Cavazos was the highest finisher from Texas after shooting rounds of 72, 76, 72 to get his 220, good for four-over par.

It was an invitation-only tournament that included the top high school golfers from across the country. Many individual state and team champions attended.

If an individual state champion was attending with his team, then the next person in line was invited and that’s how Cavazos received his invitation after he finished second at last year’s 5A state tournament.

Cavazos helped the Chargers finish fifth at state and he set two school marks after he had the best individual finish at state with a 139 (69,70) and was the first to win an individual medal at state with his silver medal.

Cavazos has signed to play at Midland College where he will enroll in the fall.
