In an effort to better serve its readers, The Boerne Star is undergoing some changes that will continue to make the award-winning newspaper the best source of local news and information for the long haul.
Beginning Aug. 17, The Star will switch to an online-only newspaper on Wednesday and a print edition on the weekend, starting Aug. 20-21, just in time for the 2022 high school football season.
That means the newspaper will move its Friday edition to a beefed-up Saturday delivery and include prep football and other local fall sports information featuring all the big games.
“We’re extremely excited about this announcement,” Managing Editor Keith E. Domke said. “We already have the best local news and sports coverage in the area, and giving readers the scoop on Friday Night Lights the day after the games are finished, as well as publishing a true weekend newspaper, is a tremendous plus.
“This is a great thing and strengthens our commitment to be the best source of local information in Kendall County.”
The expanded Sunday/weekend edition — which actually starts arriving in mailboxes and online Saturday — will include many of the staples that have made The Star the go-to information source for more than a century and also will feature expanded coverage of not only news and sports, but business and entertainment.
At the same time, the Tuesday Star will move to Wednesday and be an online-only edition. Subscribers will have access through email and The Star’s website like they already have.
“Readers won’t miss a beat,” Domke said. “A few features may change editions, but the quality of our coverage and our commitment to readers and advertisers will be even stronger.
“The Star always will provide the best bang for the buck.”
Domke stressed readers still will receive everything they are accustomed to in the two weekly editions. For the new Wednesday e-edition, subscribers who provide an email address will receive a notice Wednesday morning stating the e-edition is available.
Domke said The Star remains vital to the community as the one true source of local news and information, and it will continue to serve that purpose for readers.
“The Boerne Star has been around for 116 years, and we plan to be here for 116 more,” he said. “However, we have to adapt to the times.”
Since 1906, The Boerne Star has been the top source for local news in Boerne and Kendall County. Combined with the Hill Country Recorder in 2004, The Star serves Boerne, Comfort, Fair Oaks Ranch and all of Kendall County. Its motto is “Local yesterday, today and tomorrow.”
Domke has planned a couple of special informative “Coffee with Keith” gatherings for people to attend who have questions or want more information. They are scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, August 5, and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, at Kronkosky Place, 17 Old San Antonio Road.
Star readers, subscribers and the public are invited to attend.
The focus will be information about the paper’s changes and answering questions people may have about it.
