The Boerne Champion girls soccer team had a strong showing at the North East ISD Showcase Tournament in San Antonio last weekend.
Champion upset Southlake Carroll to open the tourney on Thursday and they also beat Clemens and MacArthur to go 3-0 at the event.
The Lady Chargers are 3-0-2 overall and open district play Tuesday at New Braunfels Canyon. After that, they’ll host Antonian for its 2022 home opener on Friday at Charger Field in a non-district match.
Just like in its previous tournament, the Lady Chargers took on some stiff competition and held its own.
Champion opened on Thursday with Southlake Carroll and defeated the Lady Dragons, 2-1.
Southlake Carroll is ranked No. 6 in the state and 136th in the nation according to MaxPreps.
Goal keeper Audrey Riordan came up with 6 saves, while Addy Huber converted a penalty kick in the 25th minute after a foul on Mack Arendall in the box before the Dragons tied it up with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Once it went to PKs, the Chargers converted 4, while the Dragons had 3. Huber, Vivian Garza, Kallyn Zaner and Lorenna Garza all made their kicks.
The Lady Chargers defeated Clemens on Friday, 2-1.
The Lady Buffs took the early lead but Addy Huber tied it and then Lorenna Garza put the team ahead on the assist from Vivian Garza.
Riordan had 2 saves vs. Clemens.
Against Mac, the Lady Chargers won 9-1 after Reagan Burkey paced the team with 4 goals, while Ava Godoy, Nevaeh Garris, Shelby Streicher and Olivia Farias all tallied one goal each.
Garris recorded 2 assists, while Avery Case, Marisa Matos and Burkey all had 1 assist.
