Comfort High hosted Lago Vista last Tuesday night in girls basketball and had a good start but couldn’t finish against the Lady Vikings.
The Deer were up 10-2 and 12-4 but a strong push to begin the second half by Lago Vista swung the momentum in their direction and they went on to post a 50-37 victory.
With the loss, the Deer fall to 10-14 on the year and 0-2 in district. Austin IDEA Montopolis has given up on basketball on the girls side, therefore the Deer were idle Friday before picking back up Tuesday at Llano for another district contest.
Comfort was up 14-9 at the end of the first quarter in Tuesday’s game, but Lago Vista outscored the Deer in the second, 10-4, and held a one-point lead at the break over Comfort, 19-18.
Once the third period started, Lago Vista went on a 12-0 run to open up a 31-18 advantage. Their lead was 13 at that point and the Lady Vikings went on to post a 13-point win so the teams basically traded buckets after that.
Lago Vista won the third quarter, 20-9, and then outscored the Deer in the final stanza, 11-10.
Madalynn Rodriguez led the Deer with 8 points, Ashlynn Rodriguez scored 7, Daniela Hernandez and Meghan Davis added 6 points apiece, Kallie Doss netted 5, Bailey Feldman scored 3 and Denise Ceja hit for 2.
Davis led Comfort in the rebounding department and pulled down 10 boards and came up with 2 steals, while Hernandez and both Rodriguez girls also picked up 2 steals and Hernandez finished with 5 assists.
