Selma H. Blankenship
Selma H. Blankenship of Boerne, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2022, at the age of 83. She was born in Washington, D.C., to the late Sol and Alice Marie Ripkin.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) Blankenship. She is survived by her brothers, Joseph (Joe) Ripkin and his wife, Phyllis, of Boerne, Texas, and Frank Ripkin and his wife, Elena, of Millsboro, Delaware. Her extended family includes nephews Scott, Brett, Justin and Matthew and, by marriage, Layton and Hunter Hayes. She is also survived by grandnieces Alexis, Elizabeth and Lindsey and grandnephews Joshua, Garrett, and Korben.
Selma worked for several national and regional telephone companies in Maryland and Florida before retiring. She and Jim also lived in Alabama before his death and her move to Boerne, Texas. She loved reading novels and had a large collection of cookbooks.
She had a love/hate relationship with her computer, electronic picture frame and smartphone that she used to keep track of her extended family and longtime friends. Her friends saw her as quiet, not very confident ... but with a reservoir of strength that was amazing in difficult times. They loved her sweetness and knew that once you were her friend, that lasted forever.
Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved, still missed and forever dear.
A memorial service will be held June 2 at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Boerne, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Selma’s memory can be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 315 Rosewood Ave., Boerne, TX 78006 to continue their mission ministries.
